The Natural Value Initiative (NVI) is a collaboration between international environmental NGO Fauna & Flora International (FFI), the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), and Brazilian business school FGV. A close collaboration is also in place with the UN Principles for Responsible Development (UNPRI).

FFI is the world's first established international conservation body, founded in 1903. FFI acts to conserve threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, are based on sound science and take account of human needs. Through its Global Corporate Partnership Programme, FFI aspires to create an environment where business has a long term positive impact on biodiversity conservation. Key partners include Rio Tinto, Lafarge, RBS, Cargill, Anglo American, British American Tobacco and ENI. FFI also worked in collaboration with investor Insight Investment to produce a biodiversity benchmark of 36 companies in the extractive industry in 2005.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Finance Initiative is a strategic public-private partnership between the UNEP and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with over 170 financial institutions that are signatories to the UNEP FI Statements, and a range of partner organizations to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through a comprehensive work programme, regional activities, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations. UNEP FI’s work on biodiversity & ecosystem services is carried out through its Work Stream on Biodiversity / Ecosystem Services , of which the NVI is part.

The Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), is a pioneer school in business education in Brazil and one of the main centres for business education, research and consultancy in the country, as well as in South America. The Centre for Sustainability Studies (GVces) aims to disseminate the concept and practices of sustainability through educational activities, training, research, publications and communication. FGV, through its sustainable finance programme, was instrumental in the design of the Bovespa (São Paulo Stock Exchange) Business Sustainability Index (ISE).
